JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Catering Service Assistant preps, sets, serves, and cleans up catered events for the Metropolitan Community College, and assists in the service of customers in the student-run restaurant.
The Catering Service Assistant is responsible for the organization and inventory of the ICA catering storeroom. This position works with the operational management team and faculty in providing quality food and services to all guests and ensures a quality learning experience for Culinary Arts students.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains the catering storeroom organization, inventory, supplies and equipment.
- Takes inventory and recommends smallwares, paper supplies, linens, beverages, etc. for purchase for the catering department.
- Sets up, maintains, and breaks down all requirements (equipment, tables, linens, service stations, etc.) for events.
- Prepares and trays food for events.
- Provides service of events.
- Recommends updates to catering menu and service standards.
- Maintains daily copies of Event Orders, updated with any changes and final counts.
- Provides service and support to student-run restaurant service as needed.
- Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of aesthetics and appealing setups for catered events.
- Knowledge of detailed sanitation procedures.
- Skill in simple arithmetic.
- Knowledge of menu planning.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of cost control menus and inventory procedures.
- Communications skills both written and orally.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Skill in demonstrating a cooperative and professional attitude.
- Ability to follow recipes.
- Ability to cook.
- Ability to use various kitchen equipment.
- Ability to work with a variety of clients.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.

- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma.
- One year of work related experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability by college carrier to drive college vehicles.
- Must pass a background check.
