The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) empowers anterior segment surgeons to improve the vision, outcomes, and quality of life of their patients through innovative approaches to Education, Advocacy, and Philanthropy.
Position Overview
The Associate Director, Government Relations leads the Society’s regulatory affairs efforts and supports advocacy initiatives affecting ophthalmic practice. This role monitors federal healthcare policy and reimbursement changes, develops regulatory comments and policy recommendations, and helps members understand complex regulatory developments. The position works closely with physician leaders, federal agencies, and coalition partners to advance the Society’s advocacy priorities. We are looking for someone in the Greater Washington DC area and prefer someone with Hill experience rule, or someone with thorough understanding of the rule-making/ regulatory process. CMS experience a plus.
Key Accountabilities
1. Lead Regulatory Policy and Advocacy Efforts
- Draft and submit comments related to Medicare Physician Fee Schedule rules and other federal regulatory proposals.
- Monitor and analyze federal regulatory and reimbursement policies affecting ophthalmology.
- Develop formal policy positions, recommendations, and regulatory responses on behalf of the Society.
- Support advocacy initiatives involving both regulatory agencies and Congress.
2. Serve as a Regulatory and Reimbursement Subject Matter Expert
- Translate complex healthcare regulations into practical guidance for members.
- Provide education and communication regarding compliance requirements, reimbursement changes, and emerging policy trends.
- Support physician leaders on coding, valuation, and reimbursement matters with regulatory implications.
3. Build and Maintain Strategic Relationships
- Collaborate with federal agencies, coalition partners, specialty societies, consultants, and physician leaders.
- Represent the Society in external meetings, advisory groups, and policy coalitions.
- Support engagement with Executive Branch officials, congressional staff, and healthcare stakeholders.
4. Support ASCRS Member Communication and Committee Operations
- Prepare regulatory updates, newsletters, alerts, educational materials, and website content.
- Support Government Relations and FDA Committee activities, including meeting preparation and issue analysis.
- Keep members informed about regulatory developments and available advocacy resources.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
