Job Description
We are looking for a mid-career or senior level geologist/hydrogeologist to work with our team of natural resources and water resources professionals. The position will include a mixture of office and some field work . Office duties will include data management and data analysis using a variety of software, preparing well logs, groundwater modeling, report writing, and marketing support. Field work responsibilities may include (depending on experience level) soils classification, groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation, groundwater level measurements, aquifer testing, construction inspection, Phase I and II environmental site assessments, and general field data recording.
A senior level position will include opportunities for business development, project and client management, supervising internal teams, and strategic planning.
Our current clients include state and county government agencies, watershed districts, and residential and commercial developers, particularly renewable energy. Upcoming work for watershed management authorities will likely include:
- Surface water/groundwater interactions
- Developing and implementing groundwater monitoring programs that support the management of groundwater dependent natural resources, groundwater flooding, and drought
- Source water protection plans, wellhead protection plans, and drinking water supply management areas
- Groundwater management plans
- Investigation that supports the design of stormwater infiltration practices
- Impacts of climate change on groundwater quality and groundwater quantity
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of geologist experience required
- B.A. or B.S. in geology, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, groundwater hydrology, or related field required
- Has or working to obtain Professional Geologist (PG) or Geologist in Training (GIT) registration in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Registrations in other states are acceptable if a Minnesota/Wisconsin license can be obtained within one year
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain
- Able to carry, lift or pull equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds over long distance
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to conduct occasional field work (usually 1-2 days/week) including some overnight travel
- Must be able to work effectively independently or as part of a team
- Good writing skills and basic computer skills are required

Preferred Qualifications
- Private consulting experience
- M.S. or Ph.D.
- Mining industry experience
- HAZWOPER training / certification
- Experience with underground storage tank removal, contaminated soil and groundwater sampling, and pollution remediation
- Geotechnical experience (Soil classifications, designing subsurface investigations, subcontracting drilling companies, interpreting geotechnical reports)
- Groundwater chemistry (drinking water quality, redox reactions, stable isotope analysis, etc.)
- Groundwater modeling using software such as AQTESOLV, MODFLOW (e.g., Vistas, FlowPy, ModelMuse), GFLOW, or MLAEM
- Data management and mapping skills using GIS, GPS, AutoCAD, etc. are required, but can be learned on the job
- Surface water modeling
- Experience with groundwater/surface water interactions
- Construction engineering (Dewatering, slope stability, etc.)
- Project management acumen

Base compensation is determined by factors such as market data, education and/or applicable experience, training, skills, and geographic location where work is performed. The salary for this position is expected to range between $75,000 to $130,000. Additionally, there is the potential for an end-of-year bonus based upon company profitability.
