ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR
The Town of Rutland Department of Public Works is accepting applications for a part-time Electrical Inspector within the Inspectional Services Dept.
DUTIES:
- Conducts electrical inspections at various stages of installation (rough, service, and final) for compliance with the Massachusetts Electrical Code (527 CMR 12.00).
- Evaluates electrical systems, wiring, devices, panels, and service equipment to ensure safe and compliant installations.
- Issues certificates of compliance or disapproval notices with corrective actions as required.
- Reports unpermitted or unsafe conditions to the Building Commissioner for enforcement action.
- Responds to electrical complaints and emergency calls as assigned.
- Reviews electrical permits, as directed, for compliance with codes and licensing requirements.
- Works cooperatively with other inspectors (building, plumbing, gas, fire, DPW, planning) for coordinated field inspections.
- Provides technical assistance and code interpretation to homeowners, contractors, and design professionals when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician License in good standing.
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for site inspections.
- Certification as a Wiring Inspector in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 143 and BBRS requirements (or ability to obtain within one year of appointment).
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
Applicants must possess a general knowledge of the following:
- Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Electrical Code (527 CMR 12.00), NFPA 70, and related electrical standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to exercise impartial judgment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; courteous and effective with the public.
- Proficiency with inspectional software, Microsoft Office, and databases used for permit tracking.
OTHER
· This position is budgeted for 14 hours per week
· This is a non-union, non-contracted position
· This is a part-time, non-benefited position
