Job Overview
Healing Hearts Animal Urgent Care is seeking a Pet Care Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys hands-on patient care, and brings empathy and positivity to every interaction. This role is perfect for someone eager to develop their skills in urgent care while being part of a supportive and collaborative team.
In this role, you will focus on patient husbandry and care as well as general housekeeping duties throughout the hospital. You will provide meals and walks to hospitalized patients, administer medication, and monitor for any medical or behavioral concerns while providing detailed documentation about your observations. You will ensure kennels, common spaces, and treatment areas are sanitized and well stocked with supplies.
This is a Full-Time position with a 4-day workweek. The schedule is Mon/Fri/Sat/Sun
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinary staff with animal handling, restraint, and transport to ensure safety for both animals and team members
- Support animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning, grooming, and monitoring health status
- Help with laboratory procedures including sample processing, and basic diagnostics under supervision
- Maintain detailed records of animal care activities, medication schedules, and clinical observations
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of kennels, treatment areas, and equipment to uphold hygiene standards
Experience
- Prior kennel experience or work in animal care environments is required; enthusiasm for learning is essential
- Knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and behavior to handle animals safely and effectively
- Experience with veterinary terminology, critical care procedures, or laboratory work is highly advantageous
- Familiarity with pet care routines including medication administration and restraint techniques
- Previous veterinary assistant or clinic experience will help you excel in supporting clinical operations and patient care workflows
- Strong work ethic and ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Calm demeanor and compassionate approach to both patients and clients
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Interest in urgent care or emergency medicine is a plus
