Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and dump trucks, following all DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Plan and execute over-the-road (OTR) routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper handling of logistics cargo while complying with hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Transport automobile parts or other specialized cargo with precision, ensuring secure loading and unloading to prevent damage or accidents.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and resolve any route or cargo issues promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience operating commercial trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or dump trucks in various environments.
- Strong knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling techniques.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools for efficient route planning on over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Ability to handle hazardous materials safely in compliance with hazardous materials regulations when required.
- Skilled in manual handling techniques for freight loading/unloading; experience with forklift operation is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of DOT (Department of Transportation), FMCSA, and hazardous materials regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
- Capable of driving manual transmission trucks confidently over long distances while maintaining safety standards.
- Good communication skills for effective coordination with dispatch teams and customers during deliveries.
