Sussex County Community College is seeking a part time Science Lab Assistant. The Science Lab Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in natural and physical science laboratories including set up and cleanup of teaching labs; maintenance, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and the laboratory; assists with maintaining and ordering inventory and various recordkeeping functions. May pickup and deliver equipment, prepare solutions and media, and dispose of contaminated materials from the area.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with the preparation of media and chemicals for all science disciplines
- Assists with setting up and cleaning up of labs/equipment/glassware for all science classes.
- Assists with the maintenance of inventory listings to ensure prompt ordering of replacement supplies.
- Assists with maintenance of all living cultures.
- Performs autoclave sterilization of used media/cultures.
- Assists with the maintenance and repairs specific equipment; may work with vendors to arrange for service.
- Assists in maintaining all necessary laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA and PEOSHA requirements for the laboratories.
- Assists with instruction of student assistants in proper procedures relating to safety issues.
- Maintains current training in laboratory safety procedures through continuing education.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Associate’s degree preferred with some science courses at the college level
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Working knowledge of current laboratory safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to effectively interact with College faculty/staff and community representatives.
Ability to work with Excel and Word
