Overview
Sherpa Collaborative is an accounting, tax, and finance firm that works exclusively with construction companies, trade contractors, and home services businesses. That's our focus. We don't try to serve every industry. We go deep in one, and we're growing quickly because of it.
We're hiring an Accounting Manager to lead and grow our accounting team. This person will own the quality of our client deliverables, build the processes and documentation that allow us to scale without losing consistency, and help us bring new clients into our systems cleanly. We're a technology-forward firm that is always looking for better ways to work, and we need someone who thinks that way too.
This is not a job where you maintain the status quo. We're building a firm, and we need someone who wants to help build it.
Responsibilities
Manage and develop the accounting team. Review work product, provide coaching, and raise the bar on quality across the board. As the firm grows, you'll play a direct role in hiring and onboarding new team members.
Own the month-end close process across a multi-client portfolio of construction, trades, and home services businesses. Make sure financials are accurate, complete, and delivered on time. Ensure all client books are tax-ready so the tax department can do their work without chasing down missing schedules or reconciling accounts that should already be clean.
Build and maintain standard operating procedures for how we close books, onboard new clients, handle construction-specific accounting, and manage recurring workflows. If a process isn't documented, it doesn't scale. You'll be the person who makes sure our playbook keeps up with our growth.
Lead the onboarding process for new clients. That means getting into their books, understanding what needs to be cleaned up or restructured, setting them up in our systems, and making sure the handoff to the ongoing team is smooth.
Manage new projects as they come in, whether that's a historical cleanup, a system migration, or a special engagement that falls outside the normal workflow.
Oversee the rollout of new technology and software, both internally and for clients. You don't need to be an engineer, but you need to be the kind of person who learns new tools quickly and can get a team comfortable using them.
Construction accounting is central to this role. Job costing, WIP schedules, AIA billing, retention tracking. You won't necessarily do all of it yourself, but you need to understand it well enough to review it, catch problems, and teach your team how to get it right.
Requirements
5 to 10 years of accounting experience, including public accounting. At least 2 years managing or supervising a team where you were responsible for the quality of other people's work, not just your own.
Experience in a multi-client environment. You understand what it takes to manage a portfolio of clients at different stages, with different needs, on different timelines.
Construction or trades industry experience is a strong plus. If you know your way around job costing, percentage-of-completion, and how contractors think about their finances, you'll ramp fast. If your background is in a different industry but you bring strong management skills and a willingness to learn, we're open to that.
Comfortable with technology. We use modern accounting platforms and we're always evaluating new tools. You should be someone who sees technology as a way to work smarter, not something to resist.
CPA preferred, not required. Public accounting experience is required.
