Responsibilities
- Operate tractor-trailers and specialized trucks such as flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and hazardous materials carriers in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries across designated territories.
- Load and unload freight safely, utilizing manual handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts when necessary.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and route information in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Ensure the secure transport of freight including dangerous goods and hazardous materials by adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery schedules, or any issues encountered during transit.
Experience
- Proven commercial truck driving experience with a focus on tractor-trailer operations across diverse freight types including refrigerated loads, flatbeds, tankers, or hazardous materials.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and the ability to operate them proficiently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures including load & unload operations.
- Experience in route driving with a strong understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations such as FMCSA and DOT standards.
- Prior delivery driver experience preferred, especially involving freight that requires careful handling or hazardous materials compliance.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently in various environments.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for the type of freight transported.
