A Dermatology Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports dermatologists by providing specialized clinical care, including assisting with biopsies, excisions, and cosmetic procedures (Botox, lasers), performing wound care, and educating patients on skin health. They manage patient intake, document in EMR systems, and prepare exam rooms.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Assistance: Assist physicians with biopsies, skin excisions, and cryotherapy.
- Patient Care: Perform suture removals, dressing changes, and wound care.
- Assessment & Intake: Room patients, take vital signs, and review medical history.
- Documentation: Update patient records in EMR systems (e.g., Nextech) and act as a scribe for providers.
- Education: Instruct patients on pre- and post-procedure care, skin cancer prevention, and medication application.
- Office Procedures: Clean and sterilize exam rooms, stock supplies, and process laboratory specimens.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Licensure: Active LPN license in the respective state.
- Experience: Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting/Dermatology is typically preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and attention to detail for managing patient care.
- Certification: Dermatology-specific certifications are often preferred or required within a specific timeframe.
