Production Excellence Manager
Custom Architectural Steel Doors and Windows

Senior fabricator with a manager’s mindset to drive manufacturing efficiency and quality control at our custom steel door and window shop.
About the shop
Atelier Domingue designs, fabricates, finishes, and installs custom steel doors and windows for high-end residential projects across the United States. Every piece is bespoke. Our welds are often visible in the finished piece, so weld appearance matters as much as weld strength. We’re a 14+ person fab shop in Houston, part of a 28+ person operation across CAD, paint, installation, and management. We’re growing and we need someone senior on the shop floor to help us build better and build smarter.
What you’ll do
You’re responsible for two things above all else: manufacturing efficiency and quality control. Everything else supports those two aims.
- Develop and document the standards that define our work — weld appearance, grinding, dimensional tolerances between stations
- Lead process improvement projects that measurably reduce build time or improve quality
- Produce materials takeoffs and cut lists from CAD shop drawings for every new project
- Manage shop-floor inventory, coordinate materials across departments, keep the shop organized (5S)
- Work from your own dedicated fitup table for prototyping new pieces, developing techniques, and stepping in on complex or overflow production
- Coach and mentor the fabrication team on technique and standards
This is a heavily collaborative role by design. You partner daily with our Operations Manager, Shop Foreman, Project Manager, CAD team, Purchasing Coordinator, and Install/Paint leadership. You will not succeed here if you prefer to work alone.
What you bring
Required
- 10+ years of hands-on fabrication experience
- MIG and TIG mastery with a real eye for weld appearance
- Experience working to tight tolerances on custom one-off pieces (not production runs)
- Bilingual English/Spanish. Our team includes Spanish-speaking craftsmen and daily communication requires fluency in both languages.
- R&D mindset: comfortable experimenting, prototyping, and developing standards through iteration rather than executing pre-existing procedures
- Efficiency orientation: constant instinct for how work could be done better, faster, or with less waste
- Organizational discipline: systematic, orderly, comfortable managing inventory, coordinating materials, and working inside structured processes
- Collaborative work style: daily comfort partnering across multiple teams and individuals
- Ability to read shop drawings, use standard measuring tools (tape, square, calipers, micrometers), and learn Airtable and other software suites for production data
- Self-directed work style with a patient teaching instinct
Preferred
- Experience in architectural metal, custom furniture, ornamental ironwork, or specialty welding
- Prior shop lead, foreman, or production supervisor experience
- Machining experience (manual or CNC)
- AWS D1.1 or similar welding certifications
- Welding Inspector credentials (CWI, NDT, or similar)
- Formal teaching or training experience
- Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement frameworks

- Base pay $30 to $36 per hour, commensurate with experience. Position within the range reflects years of relevant fabrication experience, prior shop lead or coordination background, and depth of architectural or custom metal experience.

Work environment
Active fabrication shop with associated noise, heat, fumes, and physical activity. Requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds. Required PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, welding mask, gloves, apron) is provided by the shop.
