JOB SUMMARY: The Phlebotomist performs venipunctures and capillary collections of blood samples on hospital and outpatients and employees. Separates serum from fed cells for specimens going to other laboratories. All clerical duties related to specimens being sent other laboratories including sending out reports on return from the Reference Laboratory.
REPORTS TO: LABORATORY MANAGER
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure: None
Experience: Individuals with experience in venipuncture procedures will be given preference.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of age specific needs and of the pediatric, adolescent and adult patient.
- Knowledge of growth and development of all ages of patients.
- Should have good manual dexterity, ability to follow instructions.
REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
- Hearing-Hearing acuity sufficient to perform job functions
- Speaking-Verbal ability is required to report to the physician and other departments the status of each patient.
- Vision-Normal visual acuity
- Other-Ability to function independently and remain poised under pressure

Chemical Exposure Needles and Syringes
Computer Use Waste handling/infectious waste
