Morehead City is hiring a Full-Time Human Resources Technician to join our dynamic HR Team. This position provides critical administrative and technical support for daily HR operations and assists employees, applicants and departmental staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organization skills, a commitment to customer service, be adaptable, and collaborative across various functions within the HR Department.
Additional Information to Note: The selected candidate for this full-time position should not anticipate a start date prior to September 1, 2026.
Essential Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Providing general, clerical, and administrative support to the Human Resources Department and City staff.
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations and functions of the Human Resources Department.
- Assisting with establishing, maintaining, and purging confidential and/or personnel files in accordance with all established and mandated retention schedules.
- Assisting in initiating the new hire onboarding process to include, but not limited to, generating new hire information packets, verifying results for pre-employment screenings, and a new hires identity in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Assisting with the off-boarding process for employees separating from service or retiring.
- Assisting with tracking and maintaining employee data needed for processing personnel actions.
- Assisting with maintaining applicant databases and recruitment files.
- Assisting with the processing of payments through the Human Resources Department, ensuring appropriate revenue and/or expense accounts are used in accordance with the Finance and Revenue & Collections Departments.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
- Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and administrative support.
- Basic knowledge of human resources processes and procedures
- Basic knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines relevant to human resources management.
- The ability to utilize computer systems and software to effectively perform daily tasks and projects.
- A High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in human resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Position Details:
- This is a full-time, on-site administrative position. The schedule aligns with standard business hours, though flexibility may be required during high-volume periods. The role involves prolonged periods of computer work and occasional light physical activity including lifting or moving files or equipment up to 10 pounds.

Salary Range:
