JOB TITLE: Assistant Kitchen Manager
REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager and Director of Food Services
SUPERVISES: Non-Applicable
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Classified/Non-Exempt
JOB GOAL: Assists the Kitchen Manager in the daily operation of the school food service program in a safe, organized, and efficient manner, ensuring meals are prepared and served in compliance with USDA guidelines and local procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist the Kitchen Manager in supervising and instructing kitchen personnel in safe, proper, and efficient food service practices. Use all equipment correctly and report concerns to the Kitchen Manager or Director of Food Services.

Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness by following all sanitation and food safety guidelines. Work professionally with health inspectors and follow corrective actions as directed.

Assist with food preparation, production, serving, and cleanup of breakfast and lunch, including trash removal, tables, and floors.

Prepare food according to approved menus, recipes, and production records to ensure nutritional compliance and consistency.

Assist with completing daily production records accurately and in detail.

Test foods as directed to assure proper taste, texture, and quality prior to service and report concerns to the Kitchen Manager.

Assist with receiving shipments by checking packing slips and properly storing and rotating food and supplies.

Help maintain accurate inventory and proper storage of food and supplies, including refrigerators and freezers.

Assist with maintaining temperature logs and cleaning schedules for equipment and facilities.

Safely clean, use, and maintain kitchen equipment, including but not limited to: steam tables, convection ovens, steamers, warmers, ranges, hoods, dishwashers/disposals, mixers, and slicers.

Assist with routine equipment checks and report maintenance or safety concerns to the Kitchen Manager for work order submission.

Support the Kitchen Manager with station assignments and rotation cleaning schedules.

Help ensure the serving schedule is met and students receive the correct foods in a timely manner.

Interact in a polite, courteous, and professional manner with students, faculty, staff, and parents.

Promote healthy eating and support a positive, student-centered cafeteria environment consistent with the district's "Kids First" philosophy.

Report immediately to the Kitchen Manager, Building Principal, and/or Director of Food Services any accidents, safety concerns, or incidents in the kitchen or cafeteria.

When assigned, assist with or assume responsibility for daily kitchen operations in the absence of the Kitchen Manager.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Director of Food Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-
High School diploma or equivalent.
-
Minimum one year of K-12 food service experience is highly recommended.

ServSafe certification, preferred
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and food services software(s).

Annual school safety training per district guidelines

Annual Civil Rights training per Federal Child Nutrition guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter.
