Automotive Technician
Great Little Cars | Santa Fe, NM
Great Little Cars is a small, independent car dealership and auto shop in Santa Fe with a consistently busy service department and a steady flow of dealership and customer vehicles. We're looking for a confident, dependable Automotive Technician to join our team a few days a week.
This is a hands-on position in a shop where the work is varied and practical. Our service department handles both dealership vehicles going through inspection and reconditioning and customer vehicles coming in for maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs.
What You'll Do
- Perform thorough pre-purchase and vehicle condition inspections.
- Inspect and recondition dealership inventory before vehicles are retail-ready.
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, brakes, batteries, bulbs, filters, and wipers.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
- Inspect and repair suspension, steering, shocks, struts, and sway bars.
- Diagnose check-engine lights and basic electrical or A/C issues.
- Road-test vehicles and evaluate overall condition and drivability.
- Identify safety concerns and communicate recommended repairs.
- Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Communicate clearly with the team about inspection findings, repairs, parts, and unexpected issues.
- Help keep both customer vehicles and dealership inventory moving through the shop.
The Vehicles
We work on a wide variety of makes and models, including:
Subaru, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Ford, Jeep, MINI, Land Rover, Mazda, Kia, Ram, and occasional vintage and specialty vehicles.
You don't need to be an expert on every make. We need someone with a strong mechanical foundation, good diagnostic instincts, and the confidence to figure things out.
What We're Looking For
The right candidate will be:
- An experienced, confident automotive technician.
- Comfortable diagnosing problems rather than simply replacing parts.
- Able to perform thorough inspections and identify mechanical and safety concerns.
- Comfortable working independently without constant supervision.
- Reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Detail-oriented and committed to quality workmanship.
- A strong team player who is willing to jump in and help wherever needed.
- An effective communicator who can clearly explain vehicle issues and repair recommendations.
- Comfortable working in a busy, sometimes unpredictable shop environment.
- Able to speak and comprehend English well enough to communicate effectively about repairs and safety.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong plus.
ASE certification is a plus, but real-world experience, mechanical ability, reliability, and good judgment matter most.
Why Great Little Cars?
We're a small, independent, hands-on shop where everyone plays an important role. Our work ranges from routine maintenance and inspections to diagnosis and repairs, with both customer vehicles and dealership inventory coming through the shop.
You'll get variety, interesting vehicles, and the opportunity to work with a team that values quality, communication, reliability, and getting the job done right.
We're looking for someone who wants consistent part-time work a few days per week and can become a dependable part of our team.
If you're a skilled technician who shows up, communicates well, thinks for yourself, and takes pride in your work, we'd love to hear from you.
