Summary:

Handles receipt and distribution of all laboratory specimens. Assists with the operation and performs point of care testing at the off-site testing locations
Responsibilities:
-
1. Performs point of care testing and assists with operations at off-site testing locations a. Performs point of care testing, including rapid COVID-19 and Flu testing at off-site locations. b. Receives send out tests into LIS system, ensuring all specimens are labeled correctly. c. Creates batches for send out tests and ensures that they are ready to be sent to reference labs 2. Follows procedures for the proper evaluation and disposition of laboratory specimens as stated in the Specimen Collection Manual and reference laboratory manuals. a. Know the proper labeling requirements for all laboratory samples b. Cross-check Laboratory referrals with computer orders to ensure ordering accuracy. c. Combine laboratory test orders to prevent duplicate testing. d. Identify requisition and sample issues. Notify physician’s office, nursing homes etc. to correct or seek assistance to resolve issue. e. Successfully receive samples into the hospital information system. f. Process and deliver all laboratory samples to the correct sections. g. Expedite STAT samples to ensure conformance with established TAT. 3. Interacts/communicates with all patients, physicians, and coworkers in a collaborative manner. a. Respond to customer needs with respect and professionalism. b. Use the telephone in a professional manner. c. Comply with hospital and laboratory dress code. d. Prioritize work and efficiently expedite workload. e. Work is accurate, neat, and completed in a timely fashion. f. Associate remains well organized and can exercise independent judgment to resolve customer service issues and/or seeks assistance to resolve. g. Consistently performs as a self-starter without reminders to complete duties. h. Cooperate with and take initiative to assist coworkers in completing work. i. Demonstrate responsibility for containment of hospital costs by conservation of hospital supplies, equipment and time. Notify supervisor when supplies are running low. 4. Promotes patient safety by compliance with Organizational/Departmental policies and procedures. a. Maintains confidentiality of customers and associates at all times. b. Timely completion of yearly competencies, mandatory job requirements (RAHE, Fire/Safety) and Continuing Education. c. Keeps abreast of changes and exhibits a supportive attitude. d. Keeps abreast of and complies with contents in Laboratory Manual, DH Associate Manual, Infection Control Manual, Chemical/Safety Hygiene Manual, Computer and each Departmental Policy and Procedure Manuals. e. Associate is able to admit errors and accepts responsibility for actions. f. Communicate, consult and share pertinent information with coworkers and supervisors according to established channels and lines of authority g. Associate has knowledge of Performance Improvement Initiatives. h. Associate complies with dress code of department
