Position Summary:
The Dietitian promotes healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation, menu planning, dietary modifications, and education. She/he functions as part of the interdisciplinary team and collaborates with medical doctor, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and pharmacists. She/he provides specialized services, such as total parenteral nutrition (intravenous feeding) or enteral nutrition (tube feeding).
Hours are flexible - Monday thru Friday (may be some weekends hours)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to identify and assess health of individual residents to determine appropriate dietary plans.
- Establishes treatment plans and communicates them with residents and families.
- Completes nutrition consults, quarterly, annual and significant change assessments on residents. Completes corresponding MDS data entries.
- Attend Resident Care Conferences and update plan of care/care plans.
- Meets directly with residents and/or families to identify food preferences; provide instruction/counseling, utilizing informational handouts/booklets, or refer to community resources as needed.
- Identifies ways to improve care of residents, monitor weights of residents, provide weekly summary of weight changes to the IDT and maintain weight gain/loss log, and make recommendations to the Medical Director.
- Participates in quality improvement program in conjunction with other departments.
- Provides in-service and education to dietary staff as needed.
- Assist dietary department with Food Service Operations as needed, assist with overseeing kitchen staff, food safety, and food quality and menu development/compliance. Assist with dietary changes, printing of reports and tray tickets as needed.
- Complete dietary audits to monitor for food safety, food quality and menu compliance. Report findings to Nutrition and Environmental Services Director.
- Qualifications:
- Must maintain RD registration for the State of Michigan.
- Serve Safe certification is a plus, but not required.
