Position Summary / Job Description:
The Certification Engineer II – Flammability applies basic engineering and scientific principles to support certification of materials in FAA approved installations for business aircraft. Participates in the substantiation of interior materials which will include various FAA required burn tests and other compliance methods. Existing experience with the FAA Flammability requirements for 14CFR Part 25 Aircraft is required.
Essential Functions:
As a member of the Engineering team supporting OEM Completions, you will be integral to the design and certification of Aircraft Interiors. This activity includes:
1. Review of Aircraft Interior Drawings, Project Specific Cert Plans, and Compliance Check Lists to estimate project scope.
2. Evaluation of existing substantiation and compliance data to determine the extent of certification testing required.
3. Evaluation of new or revised drawings (Type Design) to facilitate compliance means (testing, analysis, comparison).
4. Type Design review includes 2D Drawings, interrogation of 3D CAD Data, and associated Bill of Material (BOM).
5. Coordination with internal and external customers and suppliers to ensure test and document requirements are met.
6. Coordinate requirements and resolve design or fabrication conflicts between different functional teams within Engineering and Manufacturing.
7. Draft Engineering Reports including Test Plans, Test Reports, Compilation Reports, Substantiation Documents, and Summary Compliance Reports.
8. Draft and audit FAA (ODA) conformity and approval (8100-9) forms.
9. Creation and Routing of documents within the OEM Configuration Management System.
10. Adherence to OEM methods, specifications, standards, and ODA procedures for all work including testing and documentation.
11. Active in the planning, scheduling, and tasking of work, including testing, document drafting and routing, for the flammability team.
12. Collaborate with ODA EARs (DERs) to obtain the required FAA (ODA) approvals.
13. Responsible for quality and completeness of compliance and substantiating reports/documents, and approvals.
14. Support training and onboarding of new team members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in Engineering, Technology, Design, or Drafting is required along with 6 Years of relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree (BS or BEng) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering or (BA or BS) in areas such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, or Chemistry and 4 Years of relevant experience is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
1. Direct Knowledge and Experience with FAA Regulations and Airworthiness Requirements for flammability regulations (CFRs 25.853, 25.856, 25.855, and 25.1713), including flammability testing, development of Test Plans / Reports, and creation of substantiating data.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, AND experience with Dassault CAD and PLM applications such as CATIA, Enovia, and SmarTeam.
3. Good analytical, interpersonal, communication, and visualization skills.
4. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
