The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing railroad history while providing a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for employees, volunteers, and guests. As part of our team, you will play a role in maintaining the historic properties and grounds that help bring this history to life for thousands of visitors each year.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Grounds & Property Associate to maintain and enhance the appearance, safety, and functionality of our outdoor spaces and facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for performing landscape maintenance, landscaping, lawn care, and general groundskeeping tasks to ensure a welcoming and well-kept environment. Your proactive approach and hands-on skills will contribute significantly to the overall aesthetic and safety of our property.

Pay
Starting pay: $15.00 per hour

Responsibilities
- Mow, trim, edge, aerate, and fertilize lawns to promote healthy, attractive turf and maintain the overall appearance of the property.
- Maintain gardens and landscaped areas by planting flowers, shrubs, and other greenery; removing weeds; mulching beds; watering; and ensuring plant health.
- Operate equipment such as zero-turn mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and utility vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete groundskeeping and maintenance tasks.
- Assist with facility repairs and general property maintenance.
- Help maintain property infrastructure by repairing fencing, installing signage, and performing minor repairs as needed.
- Support overall property cleanliness through trash removal, debris pickup, leaf removal, and site cleanup.
- Assist with event setup and breakdown for museum activities, special events, and seasonal operations.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Prior experience in landscaping, gardening, or groundskeeping is preferred but not required; a strong willingness to learn is valued
- Knowledge of horticulture principles and landscape maintenance techniques
- Ability to operate hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, and hoes effectively
- Familiarity with power tools, including trimmers, blowers, or lawnmowers, is a plus
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and troubleshooting skills are desirable
- Physical stamina to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds or more

Schedule
- Typical schedule is Monday through Friday
- Weekend work is required during seasonal events, special excursions, and other museum activities throughout the year
