Position Overview
A&W Consulting Service is seeking dependable, professional, and detail-oriented Independent Contractor Medical Couriers to support time-sensitive healthcare and medical transportation services.
Medical Couriers will be responsible for the safe, secure, accurate, and timely pickup and delivery of approved medical materials between healthcare facilities, laboratories, pharmacies, medical offices, hospitals, clinics, and other authorized locations.
This position requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, confidentiality, attention to detail, and accountability. Medical deliveries may be time-sensitive and can directly support healthcare operations and patient services.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Couriers may be responsible for:
- Picking up and delivering medical specimens, laboratory materials, supplies, documents, medications where authorized, and other approved healthcare-related items.
- Completing scheduled and on-demand courier routes according to client requirements.
- Following all applicable handling, packaging, transportation, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintaining accurate pickup and delivery records.
- Obtaining required signatures, scans, timestamps, photographs, or other proof of delivery.
- Protecting medical materials from loss, damage, contamination, unauthorized access, and inappropriate temperature exposure.
- Following client-specific procedures for temperature-sensitive materials when applicable.
- Immediately reporting delays, damaged packages, spills, incorrect addresses, rejected deliveries, or other delivery exceptions.
- Maintaining professional communication with dispatch, management, healthcare personnel, and customers.
- Protecting confidential information encountered during assignments.
- Following applicable safety, privacy, and compliance requirements.
- Keeping the contractor's vehicle clean, reliable, properly maintained, and appropriate for assigned work.
- Completing assigned routes within established service windows.
- Maintaining consistent attendance and availability for accepted assignments.
Independent Contractor Requirements
Qualified contractors should have:
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- A reliable personal vehicle suitable for assigned medical courier work.
- Current vehicle registration.
- Automobile insurance meeting applicable legal and contractual requirements.
- A smartphone with reliable cellular service and GPS/navigation capabilities.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening where applicable.
- Ability to meet client-specific credentialing requirements.
- Reliable transportation and a strong record of punctuality.
- Ability to safely handle and transport assigned materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch and client locations.
Additional documentation or qualifications may be required depending on the specific healthcare client or type of materials transported.
Training & Compliance
Before accepting applicable medical courier assignments, contractors may be required to complete training covering:
- HIPAA and patient confidentiality
- Bloodborne pathogens and exposure awareness
- OSHA-related safety procedures applicable to assigned work
- Medical specimen handling
- Chain-of-custody procedures
- Spill and exposure response
- Proper use of personal protective equipment when required
- Temperature-sensitive transportation procedures
- Client-specific delivery protocols
- Proof-of-delivery procedures
- Incident and exception reporting
A&W Consulting Service expects all contractors to follow applicable laws, regulations, client requirements, and established safety procedures for each assignment.
Vehicle & Equipment
Independent contractors are generally responsible for providing and maintaining their own vehicle, fuel, smartphone, cellular service, and other ordinary operating expenses unless otherwise specified in the applicable contractor agreement or assignment.
Certain assignments may require specialized containers, coolers, PPE, identification, or other equipment. Responsibility for providing specialized equipment will be communicated before the contractor accepts the applicable assignment.
