JGIS Engineer – Utility Network
Onsite – Detroit, MI 48226 | Full-time/Contract
Overview
We are seeking a GIS Engineer to support a municipal water utility's Utility Network migration, enterprise geodatabase maintenance, and water/wastewater asset data quality. This role bridges GIS engineering, spatial data management, and utility infrastructure support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Python and ModelBuilder workflows to automate QA/QC, spatial validation, and topology error correction (e.g., disconnected service lines, stop boxes) across water utility assets.
- Support migration of legacy utility datasets into ArcGIS Utility Network, including schema/domain review, attribute rules, and branch versioning.
- Digitize as-built and field book drawings into network-ready GIS data.
- Create and manage CityWorks work orders for field programs (e.g., hydrant painting) using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online feature layers.
- Produce engineering-standard design drawings (e.g., USACE lead service line removal) in ArcGIS Pro, including templates and contractor submittals.
- Process internal GIS update requests using field records, as-builts, and permit approvals; maintain asset interfaces between systems.
- Provide GIS support to field engineering teams for construction projects and contracts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, or related field.
- 5+ years GIS experience, including ArcGIS Pro/Enterprise administration.
- Demonstrated experience with Utility Network concepts, topology, and enterprise geodatabases.
- Strong Python scripting and ModelBuilder skills for automation/QA-QC.
- SQL and ETL pipeline experience (data sync between databases and GIS).
- CityWorks and/or Innovyze experience strongly preferred; water/wastewater utility experience a plus.
