Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, and customer-focused Deli Kitchen Associate to join our convenience store and deli team. The ideal candidate will prepare fresh food, operate kitchen equipment safely, maintain a clean work environment, and help ensure the deli runs efficiently. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to food safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare made-to-order sandwiches, wraps, breakfast items, and other deli menu items.
- Safely operate the flat-top grill and other kitchen equipment.
- Cook food according to recipes and food safety standards.
- Clean and sanitize the grill, food preparation surfaces, utensils, and kitchen equipment throughout the shift.
- Prepare ingredients for the morning shift, including slicing vegetables, stocking meats and cheeses, preparing sauces, and organizing supplies.
- Restock ingredients, packaging, and kitchen supplies as needed.
- Monitor food freshness and rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and health department guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen at all times.
- Assist customers with deli orders in a friendly and professional manner.
- Communicate with team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Report equipment issues, low inventory, or food quality concerns to management.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties, including cleaning and stocking.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, deli, restaurant, or food service experience preferred (training available for the right candidate).
- Ability to prepare sandwiches accurately and efficiently.
- Experience operating a grill or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and organization.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a convenience store, deli, café, or restaurant.
- Food Handler Certification (preferred but not required).
- Experience with food preparation and inventory rotation.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for long periods.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.
- Work safely around hot grills, knives, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Perform repetitive food preparation tasks throughout the shift.
