Job Title/Department: Pharmacy Technician
Reports to: Director of Pharmacy Part-time
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The pharmacy technician assists the Director of Pharmacy or licensed
pharmacists with all nonclinical tasks of the pharmacy, including all facets of ordering, answering nonclinical questions,
and working with pharmacy students, volunteers, and clinical staff. This position requires current registration with the
South Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
Responsibilities as pharmacy technician:
· Assists with of all aspects of procuring inventory for the pharmacy, including, placing regular orders to Americare,
Direct Relief, Anda Meds, Integral and Dispensary of Hope, checking in and putting away orders.
· Contact account managers with questions and concerns as the need arises.
· Refer all clinical questions to available pharmacist or student.
· Assist in training of pharmacy students and volunteers in workflow tasks. Provide direction for what tasks are
most urgent to complete.
· Process prescriptions (new and refill) in the pharmacy management system.
· Assist clinical staff and volunteers in locating and preparing medications that are to be dispensed to patients.
· Troubleshoot problems with pharmacy computers and printer.
· Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
· Inform office manager when items need to be ordered for pharmacy (ink, labels, etc.)
· Take sufficient continuing education hours to maintain South Carolina pharmacy technician registration.
Educational/Experience/Physical Job Requirements:
· Associate degree and/or certification preferred
· Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external customers
· Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions
given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
· Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other
federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
· Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and
local standards
· Attention to detail and accuracy
· Strict confidentiality
· Flexible and able to perform a wide variety of tasks
· Bilingual, Spanish and English preferred
