What You'll Do
As a Teacher, you will:
-
Plan and deliver daily instruction in academic subjects such as literacy, mathematics, and GED preparation, and when appropriate, vocational or life skills.

Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with learning disabilities or limited educational backgrounds.

Utilize approved educational software and instructional technology while following JRCC security requirements.

Assess students' educational levels and develop individualized learning plans based on assessment data.

Monitor student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and maintain accurate educational records.

Administer standardized assessments such as the TABE and GED examinations and track student outcomes.
-
Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment within the correctional setting.
-
Encourage student engagement, accountability, and positive behavior while enforcing institutional rules and expectations.
-
Collaborate closely with correctional staff to ensure safety and security protocols are followed.
-
Participate in teacher meetings, professional development, required in-service training, and ongoing collaboration with education and JRCC staff.

Successfully complete Correctional Officer training and annual required training.

Stay current with educational best practices and correctional education standards.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a teaching field and a North Dakota Teaching Certificate are preferred.

Join our team of corrections professionals with the ND Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The DOCR is seeking a Full Time Authorized Instructor to join our education team and support programming within the James River Correctional Center. This position includes 100% employer paid family state health insurance. This position will be required to work 40 hours per week. A teaching license is required, although applicants pursuing a teaching license or have a substitute license are encouraged to apply as well. If the individual selected for this position is licensed, salary will be determined by the salary schedule.
