The Director - Business Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, organizing, facilitation and monitoring of the business operations across the assigned area(s) of the organization including inpatient, outpatient and professional service departments. Financial accountability for control and revenue maximization.
Leadership:

Champion the organization's mission, values, and service standards throughout all GME operations and stakeholder interactions.

Direct the business operations of Graduate Medical Education to ensure efficient, compliant, and standardized processes.

Provides strategic leadership, supervision, and professional development for GME business/finance team members.

Provides leadership and oversight for GME operational planning, resource allocation, budget management, and program support services, ensuring effective stewardship of institutional resources.

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operational workflows, business processes, and delivery models to ensure the financial health of the UC Health GME enterprise.

Serve as a key member of the GME leadership team, providing operational, financial, analytical, and strategic planning expertise to support institutional GME priorities.

Develop and fosters collaborative relationships with UC College of Medicine academic departments, hospital leadership, affiliated institutions, and external partners to promote alignment, standardization, and successful GME operations across the enterprise.

Drive a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing data, metrics, and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and enhance the resident, fellow, faculty, and staff experience.

Serve as a trusted advisor and operational resource to GME and institutional leaders, providing guidance, mentorship, and problem-solving support on complex operational and financial matters.
Financial:

Lead development, implementation, and oversight of the GME operating and capital budgets.

Partner with finance and institutional leaders to monitor GME financial performance, manage variances, and support forecasting activities.

Oversee financial management and reporting for GME programs, operations, and strategic initiatives.

Develop and present financial analyses, business plans, and performance reports to institutional and program leadership.

Identify and implement cost-containment, efficiency, and resource optimization initiatives.

Support financial planning for residency and fellowship program growth/contraction, development, and workforce initiatives.

Oversee monitoring and optimization of Medicare GME funding, resident complement, and related reimbursement opportunities.

Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with applicable regulatory and funding requirements from government and other outside payor sources.

Monitor staffing, personnel expenditures, and administrative resource utilization across GME operations.

Serve as the primary liaison between GME leadership and finance teams for budgeting, reporting, audits, and planning activities.
Performance/Data Analytics:

Develop and maintain GME operational, financial, accreditation, and workforce dashboards to support data-driven decision-making.

Provide analysis and reporting on key GME performance indicators, including resident complement, program optimization, finances, and operational effectiveness.

Partner with institutional leaders, program directors, and stakeholders to identify data needs and develop actionable business insights.

Lead the development of business plans, financial models, and operational analyses to support strategic initiatives and program expansion.

Collaborate with information services and system stakeholders to optimize data systems, reporting capabilities, and operational workflows.

Align GME performance metrics, improvement initiatives, and resource planning with institutional goals, accreditation requirements, and strategic priorities.
Communication/Relationships:

Facilitate an environment conducive to creativity in practice, collaboration with all members of the GME team, and the fostering of collegial relationships.

Interview, hire, develop, guide, counsel, and discipline staff consistent with principles of a caring, fair, and professional work environment.

Promote resident, fellow, faculty, and administrative stakeholder satisfaction through operational excellence, effective communication, and service-oriented leadership.

Ensure timely and effective communication of organizational priorities, initiatives, and operational issues across GME and institutional leadership.

Promote shared decision-making and cross-functional collaboration to support standardized, efficient, and high-quality GME operations.
Regulatory/Compliance:

Ensure accurate and timely reporting related to resident FTEs, Medicare GME funding, and other federal, state, and payer requirements.

Oversee adherence to affiliation agreements, training contracts, accreditation standards, and applicable federal, state, and institutional policies.

Oversee visa sponsorship and immigration-related processes for residents and fellows, ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted trainee appointment and enrollment.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree - Business Administration, Finance, or Health Administration.
Minimum Required: 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience. Preferred: 6 - 10 Years equivalent experience.
