Morgantown Utility Board (MUB), West Virginia's largest public utility, is seeking a communications professional to serve as Manager of Communications. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Manager of Communications is responsible for leading the organization's public affairs, media relations, community engagement, crisis communications, digital communications, and brand management initiatives.
DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager of Communications will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive communications program that includes:
· Working directly with MUB's leadership team to develop and execute internal and external communications plans
· Lead community outreach and public education initiatives that increase awareness, understanding, and support of MUB programs, services, and infrastructure investments
· Manage MUB's digital communications platforms, including website content, social media, electronic communications, and related communications channels
· Develop and manage the public affairs and communications budget
· Develop executive and departmental communications, presentations, speeches, reports, graphics, publications, special projects, and messaging materials required by regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
· Design, administer, and analyze customer surveys and public feedback initiatives
· Maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with media, community organizations, elected officials, customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
· Collaborate with internal departments, emergency management agencies, and external consultants to establish communication protocols and response procedures for crisis response communications
· Serve as MUB's principal communications coordinator during emergencies, service interruptions, infrastructure incidents, and other significant events requiring public communication, including those occurring outside normal business hours
· Professionally address and manage customer interactions and public feedback across multiple communication platforms
· Communicate complex engineering, environmental, scientific, and regulatory information into clear and accurate information that engages diverse audiences
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess and demonstrate the following:
· Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, public affairs, journalism, marketing, strategic communications, or related fields
· Three years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, marketing, or related fields. Grant research and writing experience are beneficial
· Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to develop and execute communications plans, public engagement initiatives, and media relations programs in a professional, credible and knowledgeable manner
· Knowledge of crisis communications principles and emergency communications planning
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and communications-related software, including content management systems, Adobe Creative Cloud applications, social media management platforms, and website administration
· Demonstrated proficiency in photography, videography, and multimedia content production, including content for digital, print, web, presentation, and social media platforms
· Valid driver’s license
· Pass a background check and drug screening
Pay: $46,675.00 - $70,000.00 per year
