KENSINGTON VETERINARY HOSPITAL
Assistant Manager
Full-Time Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm $26.50–$31.00/hr DOE
Are you a natural organizer who thrives in a fast-moving, people-centered environment? Do you lead by example, communicate with care, and genuinely enjoy helping a team operate at its best? If so, Kensington Veterinary Hospital may be exactly the right place for you.
We’re a privately owned, independent veterinary practice in the central San Diego — and we intend to stay that way. No private equity. No corporate playbook. Just a team of people who genuinely love what they do, led by an owner who is deeply invested in the wellbeing of her staff and the animals and families we serve.
We’re looking for an Assistant Manager who will grow with us — someone who brings operational savvy and a big heart in equal measure. This is a hands-on leadership role at the center of a hospital that takes its work seriously and has a lot of fun doing it.
WHO YOU ARE
- A confident, calm communicator — equally comfortable coaching a team member and talking with a client and motivated to receive feedback and grow.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with a knack for keeping moving parts on track
- A true team player who leads by example and steps in wherever you’re needed
- Someone who approaches feedback — giving and receiving it — with openness and grace
- Someone who finds genuine joy in the work — the animals, the team, the community
- Aligned with our core values: Integrity, Joy, Empathy, and Service
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Operations & Scheduling
- Support daily hospital flow — appointments, surgeries, staffing coverage, and scheduling
- Manage and maintain employee schedules, ensuring fair coverage and continuity of care
- Oversee appointment scheduling within our Pulse system and coordinate DVM calendars
- Ensure compliance with timekeeping, meal/rest break, and attendance policies
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead by example: model the conduct, communication, and accountability you want to see
- Provide coaching and support to staff; participate in performance conversations as needed
- Attend and actively contribute to leadership and all-staff meetings
- Document employee conversations and share with leadership as appropriate
Training & Development
- Oversee onboarding and ongoing training for new team members
- Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Inventory & Compliance
- Maintain accurate inventory counts, ordering, and receiving processes
- Manage and organize pharmacy inventory
- Manage safety documentation, MSDS binders, and Workers’ Comp records
- Conduct safety orientations for new and existing staff
Clinical Floor Support
- Step into Veterinary Receptionist or Technical Assistant roles when needed — this is a team-first environment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Drug Permit
OUR CULTURE
At KVH, we don’t just post our values on the wall — we live them.
- Integrity — We do what we say, and we say what we mean.
- Joy — We laugh. We celebrate. We find meaning in the work — even on the hard days.
- Empathy and Compassion — For our patients, our clients, and each other.
- Service — We show up fully, for the community and the team.
We are proudly privately owned and have no intention of changing that. Working here means you’ll always know who makes the decisions — and that those decisions are made with people, not profit margins, at the center.
We value discussions with others — not discussions about others. If you lead with honesty, listen with empathy, and bring a growth mindset to every challenge, you’ll fit right in here.
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
- $26.50–$30.00/hour, based on experience
- Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm
- Benefits to be discussed during the interview process
