Overview
The Supervisor manages the daily therapeutic environment (milieu) of the shelter and group home residents. Working hand-in-hand with the Program Director and Clinician, this role ensures the program runs effectively, efficiently, and remains physically and emotionally safe for residents and staff alike.
Compensation & Schedule Logistics
- Classification: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Salaried/Exempt.
- On-Call & Shift Coverage: Responsible for developing staff schedules and ensuring all shifts are covered. You may be placed on call and required to personally fill open shifts if there is a shortage.
- Overtime Rule: Any direct care shift coverage you provide beyond your standard 40 hours will be compensated additionally at the hourly Resident Advisor rate.
Core Responsibilities Breakdown1. Staff Management & Supervision
- Directs, supports, and provides daily consultation to the Resident Advisor (RA) team.
- Assists with the onboarding, orientation, and training of new RAs.
- Conducts formal performance evaluations for the Resident Advisor staff.
2. Hands-On Resident Care & Life Skills
- Provides direct services to residents, including transportation to appointments or activities.
- Instructs and assists residents with basic needs, personal hygiene, and the development of daily living skills.
- Ensures residents have adequate clothing and that their personal living spaces (bedrooms) are kept clean.
- Collaborates with the Program Director to plan and lead recreational activities (both on and off-property). This includes motivating residents, teaching hobbies/skills, and fostering an enthusiastic "play" environment.
3. Therapeutic & Crisis Model Alignment
- Fosters a stable environment utilizing Trauma-Informed, Gender-Responsive, and Culturally Sensitive treatment models.
- Strictly adheres to the practices of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
- Maintains professional therapeutic boundaries with both clients and staff at all times.
- Must be physically and technically capable of participating in advanced care, including medication administration, CPR, and/or physical intervention during a crisis.
4. Administration & Communication
- Attends mandatory weekly staff meetings and designated resident treatment status meetings to share data and implement feedback.
- Builds and promotes positive, communicative relationships with residents' families, legal guardians, and community representatives.
- Handles administrative paperwork, preparing and maintaining case records, files, and reports.
- Formally manages and oversees the house petty cash fund under the Director's guidance.
Prerequisites & Background Checks
- Educational Substitutions: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work (or related human services field) with experience handling behaviorally challenging adolescent girls. An Associate’s Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience can be substituted.
- Core Competencies: Strong foundational knowledge of Trauma Theory, Female Development, and relational strength-based care.
- Vehicle & Tech Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a safe/roadworthy vehicle, and provide proof of auto insurance annually. Must be proficient in Microsoft 365, web platforms, and Adobe PDFs.
- Vetting Process: Must pass a national fingerprint check, state police check, CT DCF protective services check, and a motor vehicle driving record check. Note: If you have lived outside of Connecticut at any point in the last 5 years, you must also pass background checks for those specific states.
- Health Screening: Must provide formal proof of a recent physical exam and a negative PPD (tuberculosis) test result.
