Position Summary
The Landscape Designer-Project Manager is responsible for supporting the Home Builder Services department through professional landscape design, project planning, estimating support, customer communication, and project coordination from concept through completion. This role prepares and manages design concepts, base plans, planting plans, hardscape layouts, construction drawings, material selections, takeoffs, budgets, schedules, change orders, and project information needed to support profitable, high-quality landscape installations. The Landscape Designer-Project Manager works closely with internal teams, customers, builders, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure designs
are creative, practical, accurate, buildable, aligned with customer expectations, and completed in accordance with company standards, safety expectations, budget parameters, permitting requirements, and project Timelines.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Represent Valor Landscape’s best interest in all interactions and communications with customers, employees, vendors, builders, subcontractors, agencies, and other parties.
- Prepare landscape design concepts, site inventories, base plans, planting plans, hardscape layouts, grading and drainage concepts, irrigation designs and coordination notes, lighting concepts, material palettes, takeoffs, proposals, and supporting project documents for assigned Home Builder Services projects.
- Produce accurate 2D plans, construction drawings, sketches, renderings, or presentation materials as needed to support customer communication, builder coordination, approvals, and field execution.
- Conduct site analysis, measurements, photos, field notes, and site condition reviews to confirm design assumptions, existing conditions, access limitations, drainage concerns, utilities, and construction constraints.
- Coordinate with customers, builders, internal leadership, estimating, purchasing, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel to confirm project scope, design intent, schedule expectations, materials, budget requirements, and buildability.
- Interpret plans, specifications, site conditions, contracts, change orders, client selection, HOA or builder requirements, and customer expectations to support accurate project planning and successful field execution.
- Manage assigned projects from design development through completion, including customer communication, design revisions, schedule coordination, material coordination, field handoff, progress tracking, invoicing support, and closeout documentation.
- Support project profitability by preparing accurate takeoffs, coordinating pricing, reviewing production assumptions, monitoring labor and material requirements, identifying scope changes, and documenting variances in a Timely manner.
- Develop and maintain clear project files, drawings, estimates, proposals, customer notes, approvals, change order information, correspondence, and other documentation as required.
- Coordinate with purchasing, nurseries, vendors, and subcontractors to confirm material availability, pricing, lead Times, substitutions, delivery expectations, and suitability for the project site and customer preferences.
- Prepare project handoff information, job packets, field notes, material lists, and contract documents needed by operations teams to execute work efficiently and accurately.
- Communicate project requirements, design intent, site conditions, design changes, safety concerns, material needs, and customer expectations to field managers, crew foremen, divisional leadership, and subcontractors in a timely manner.
- Conduct site visits as needed to review conditions, verify measurements, support field layout, observe work quality, answer installation questions, confirm material placement, support change order development, and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Assist with HOA, builder, municipal, or agency submittals and permitting coordination when required for assigned projects.
- Participate in business development, customer relationship building, builder coordination, vendor meetings, and design or product research as needed to support department growth and project outcomes.
- Adhere to and enforce company policies, safety procedures, purchasing requirements, training expectations, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
- Participate in snow management operations and variable snow-hour coverage as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Landscape Designer-Project Manager works closely with Home Builder Services leadership, project managers, field managers, crew foremen, laborers, purchasing, office personnel, vendors, builders, subcontractors, agencies, and customers to achieve design, production, safety, quality, schedule, customer service, and profitability objectives. This role may coordinate the work of field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and internal support personnel for assigned projects but does not directly supervise other project managers unless assigned by leadership. This position may also provide guidance, training, or task direction to design assistants, administrative support personnel, or other team members involved in project documentation and design deliverables.

- Ability to complete project reports, drawings, estimates, production updates, change order documentation, permitting or approval submittals, safety information, and customer communication as required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and manage multiple variables in design, estimating, customer service, production, scheduling, safety, procurement, permitting, and field operations.
- Ability to calculate numbers and amounts, including areas, volumes, quantities, materials, labor, discounts, margins, production rates, budgets, and related project or production metrics.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach with arms, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, drive, and work in various office and outdoor field environments.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license, clean motor vehicle record, and ability to pass a drug test.
- 2–5 years of related landscape design, landscape construction, project management, estimating, sales support, or field operations experience.
- Working knowledge of landscape construction practices, plant material, irrigation concepts, grading and drainage considerations, hardscape elements, outdoor living components, and construction sequencing.
- Ability to prepare and interpret landscape plans, site measurements, takeoffs, estimates, proposals, construction documents, material lists, project schedules, and change order documentation.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience with design, estimating, drawing, or landscape management software, or ability to learn company systems quickly.
- Ability to create or support design presentations using AutoCAD, F/X CAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, rendering tools, hand sketches, or comparable design and presentation platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, vendors, builders, subcontractors, agencies, and other trades in English.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational, customer service, follow-through, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including site visits, field layout support, walking job sites, and lifting equipment or materials as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree, certificate, or formal training in landscape architecture, landscape design, horticulture, construction management, or a related field.
- Experience in residential builder, Home Builder Services, enhancement, production, or
commercial landscape project environments.
- Experience with Aspire Landscape Management Software, AutoCAD, F/X CAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, takeoff so_ware, CRM tools, or other estimaAng/project management pladorms.
- Knowledge of Colorado plant material, Front Range landscape conditions, irrigation design principles, grading, drainage, soils, hardscape construction, lighting, and water-wise landscape practices.
- Prior experience managing customer selections, builder expectations, client presentations, schedules, change orders, material substitutions, and field handoffs.
- Experience coordinating HOA, builder, municipal, or agency approvals and permitting requirements.
- Professional graphic presentation, rendering, or 3D visualization skills.
- Bilingual communication in English and Spanish.
- Industry certifications, horticulture credentials, irrigation certifications, landscape architecture license, LEED certification, or other landscape/construction-related training.

Work Environment
- 40+ hours per week; variable snow hours as required.
- This position requires work in both an office environment and field environments, including customer job sites, builder communities, branch facilities, and other outdoor work locations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the Landscape Designer-Project Manager may be exposed to year-round weather conditions, wet conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold, moderate noise levels, moving equipment, and active landscape construction or snow management operations.
- The position may involve observing or inspecting irrigation systems, site conditions, grading, drainage, materials, equipment, work quality, and safety practices in the field.
- The role includes frequent driving and regular movement between office, branch, customer, vendor, and job site locations.
- Some lifting and moving of materials may be required.
- When working in the office, the position is generally exposed to normal office conditions, with occasional higher noise levels depending on daily operations.
