Williams & Connolly LLP has an opening for a Legal Assistant/Billing Specialist responsible for providing support on all aspects of the billing cycle for a senior partner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with the senior partner's current Legal Assistant and the Accounting Department billing team to ensure accurate and timely billing for both hard copy and electronic billing matters.
- Review, edit, and distribute pre-bills to billing attorneys responsible for leading the billing on particular matters.
- Apply firm and client specific billing guidelines to ensure matter engagement letter compliance.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining electronic billing for specific clients, including establishing and maintaining e-billing rates and assisting billing attorneys in submitting timekeeper rate tables for approval.
- Partner with attorneys to handle client billing inquiries by researching factual issues, determining the status of the issues, taking required actions and responding in an accurate and timely manner.
- Review and verify the accuracy of billing and supporting expense documentation as required, including but not limited to gathering and reconciling airline, hotel, and meals receipts and related expenses.
- Effectively interact and communicate with attorneys, clients, legal assistants, and billing team in a collaborative environment.
- Provide back-up support and work closely with the senior partner's current Legal Assistant to provide coverage as needed.
This is a high-volume position in a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to multi-task and organize workflow in a timely manner. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required. Strict attention to detail and accuracy is a must. Advanced knowledge of MS Excel is required. A college degree and two years of client billing experience with intermediate knowledge of electronic billing processes are strongly preferred. Prior experience using Aderant Expert, with specific expertise in billing, client/matter management, quicklook inquiries, reporting and billing rates is a plus.
The working hours for this position are 9:00 am - 5:30 pm. Flexibility to work overtime as needed is required. After successfully completing the introductory period, the candidate will be eligible to work the department's approved hybrid schedule.
Work is performed in a professional office environment and requires the following:
- Prolonged periods using a sit-to-stand desk and working on a computer.
- Repetitive movements, including typing on a keyboard and using a mouse.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20lbs.

This is a non-exempt position. The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $38.46 - $46.15, which equates to $75,000 - $90,000 on an annual basis based when working the standard 1,950-hour annual work schedule. The final offer amount is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, years of experience, education, and other relevant skills and qualifications.
