The Atelierista, with a background in the Arts, is a support to the school with her extensive knowledge of materials and techniques. She works in collaboration with the teachers to support ongoing projects with the children in and outside the classrooms.
The word Atelier means art studio or workshop in French. It is a welcoming and inspiring place where a wide variety of natural and man-made materials are available to explore. Here children of all ages come individually or in small groups to encounter experiences with different media that will progressively support all their languages of expression. The early exploration of the visual arts through materials such as clay, paper, fabric, wire, light, beads, shells, leaves, wood among others offer children endless possibilities of becoming experts in all kinds of techniques.
Responsibilities:
· Work with all children on a regular basis.
· Expose children to a diversity of materials.
· Project children’s experiences.
· Document children's experiences.
· Weekly Journals.
· Work in collaboration with teachers to support continuity of ongoing projects in the classroom. It is the responsibility of classroom teachers to share the classroom experiences with the Atelierista; it is the Atelierista’s responsibility to support these experiences in the atelier or in the classroom as deemed appropriate by the classroom teachers, Atelierista and the Director.
· Support common area documentation.
· Materials: update materials in school/keep lists of materials.
· Project experiences in the Atelier that can be related to the class intention or proposed by the atelier.
· Support Director with special events
