POSITION SUMMARY: This position works in the Kitchen (institutional) operations assisting with the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals and snacks served to JCC program participants and staff according to documented procedures. In addition, this position may assist with inventory quality control in food services. This position may also work seasonally in the JCC Café (retail), providing prompt, efficient and gracious service to all Café guests, including preparing food, beverages and snacks as ordered.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide prompt service and efficient food production and delivery to customers;
Deliver high level of customer service;
Follow all required standards specific to food handling, cleanliness, safety and personal appearance;
Adhere to all health code requirements, including prescribed uniform, hair covering and good personal hygiene;
Adhere to strict production schedule for food preparation to assure that meals are delivered on time and according to service standards;
Prepare food according to all required kosher, nutritional and dietary guidelines;
Set up, deliver, and serve meals as required;
Break down dining area, clean up and store food;
Maintain a clean kitchen, storage area and work area;
Communicate inventory levels to Director of Food Operations;
Follow OSHA guidelines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma required; course work in food preparation and/or related courses a plus
Skills in and knowledge of retail food production
Must be at least 18 years of age
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Proven knowledge of and experience working with standardized recipes and production sheets;
Marion County Health department “serv-safe- Food Handler” certification preferred
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with constituent groups;
Skills in and knowledge of related food service functions such as safety and sanitation, production methods, and equipment maintenance;
Skills in time management and in prioritizing workload to meet daily production schedule and deadlines;
Understanding of food specification including meat buyer’s guide, USDA produce, poultry and frozen specifications as well as weights and measures to accurately account for and inventory items;
Adequate oral and written communication skills; basic math skills required;
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
Basic knowledge of Jewish dietary laws (or willingness to learn).

Work Environment:
The work environment can be fast-paced at times and requires high energy and lots of interaction with JCC members, staff and members of the community. Physical demands include working in a commercial kitchen and using various equipment needed prepare, serve, and deliver food, beverages and snacks. Position requires standing, walking, reaching overhead, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. May be exposed to high air temperatures, humidity, cleaning agents.
