Industrial Refrigeration Pros is a growing family of companies specializing in the engineering, design, installation, maintenance, and service of industrial refrigeration systems. We support customers in food processing, beverage production, cold storage, distribution, manufacturing, and other temperature-controlled industries.
We are looking for an experienced Industrial Refrigeration Service Technician to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair industrial refrigeration systems throughout California.
Position Summary
The Industrial Refrigeration Service Technician is responsible for servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial refrigeration equipment and systems. This position will work primarily with ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems at customer facilities.
The ideal candidate is safety-minded, mechanically skilled, comfortable working independently, and able to diagnose complex refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and control-system issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect, service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial refrigeration systems.

Perform routine maintenance and emergency service on ammonia, Freon, and other industrial refrigeration equipment.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-system problems.

Service compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, pumps, valves, motors, and related components.

Replace mechanical seals, bearings, gaskets, valves, and other refrigeration-system components.

Perform compressor and motor alignments.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, piping diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical drawings.

Assist with system start-ups, shutdowns, and equipment commissioning.

Identify the root cause of equipment failures and recommend appropriate repairs.

Test completed repairs to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.

Document service calls, inspections, repairs, materials used, and recommendations.

Communicate professionally with customers, facility operators, project managers, and other technicians.

Follow all company, customer, OSHA, EPA, PSM, and refrigeration-safety requirements.

Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests when scheduled.

Travel to customer locations throughout the assigned service territory.

Maintain company tools, equipment, service vehicle, and assigned inventory.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Two or more years of commercial or industrial refrigeration experience.

Experience servicing ammonia refrigeration systems is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of compressors, pumps, condensers, evaporators, vessels, valves, motors, and industrial controls.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical refrigeration-system problems.

Ability to read electrical schematics, piping diagrams, and technical manuals.

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Strong communication and customer-service skills.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to travel and participate in an on-call rotation.

Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Three to five or more years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience.
-
EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
-
RETA CARO, CIRO, CRST, or similar industrial refrigeration certification.

Experience working in food-processing, beverage, dairy, cold-storage, or distribution facilities.

Experience with screw and reciprocating compressors.

Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and refrigeration control systems.

Knowledge of Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program requirements.

Experience with ammonia system start-ups and commissioning.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work from elevated platforms.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work for extended periods.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in hot, cold, wet, noisy, and industrial environments.

Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary.

Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, overtime, and emergency-service calls.
