POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing quality inmate/patient care and performing technical nursing care in the correctional setting. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
The qualified candidate:
- Must be a licensed practical nurse in the state of Tennessee or NLC
- Provide direct patient care in a secure correctional environment
- Maintain standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, other external governing and credentialing bodies, and performance improvement standards.
- Implement available treatment protocols as approved by the Medical Director.
- Utilize referral process to appropriate providers as necessary within Medical Department.
- Monitor patient health and administer basic care utilizing the nursing process within the LPN/LVN scope of practice in carrying out care plan objectives and goals.
- Administration of medication in accordance with policies and procedures, provider orders and/or current practice.
- Discuss the care provided with the patient and listen to their concerns. Report status changes and concerns to providers.
- Ability to communicate professionally with patients, visitors, coworkers and others involved in the patient's treatment in an effective manner.
- Responsible for thorough, accurate and timely reporting and documentation of the patient’s symptoms, responses and progress.
- Good organizational skills
- Experience/certification in venipuncture and IV therapy
- Respond to and address urgent medical needs of patients
- One year of experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
