JOB
Knowledge and experience driving a semi truck with a standard shift transmission. Willingness to learn the proper operation of a roll off hoist system to load and unload roll off containers.
This may be the job/career for you if you can: Operate or be capable of learning to operate a roll-off truck and front end truck. Be open to possibly learning or running other equipment such as tractors, fork lift, etc. Perform routine and preventative vehicle and equipment maintenance. Have reliable transportation and be physically able to perform job duties adequately.
Primarily operate a tandem axle roll off container truck, and may operate a front loader refuse truck, requiring a Class A or B CDL license.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Perform other duties as assigned or as needed for an effective operation of the Solid Waste Program according to the state rules and as a County employee. Clean and perform needed Operates a variety of heavy and light equipment, including roll-off trucks, front end loaders, trailers, low boys, track hoes, tractors, fork lift, etc., to level/pack container loads, load goods onto trailers, load / off-load containers, and haul containers to established locations.

Monitors containers before and after collection to limit blowing debris and to provide for safe transport.

Picks up litter / debris and other items and materials around dumpsters and performs routine grounds keeping work at dumpster sites and landfills.

Paints and maintains dumpsters.

Uses various hand and power tools, welding / cutting torch, maintenance supplies and parts, safety gear.

Inspects and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools; performs routine maintenance and repairs as necessary.

Picks up parts and supplies as requested.

Performs all duties in accordance with all County policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other County personnel, and the general public.

May occasionally operate the following: tracked excavator, front-end loader, dump truck, farm tractor, and other various equipment as assigned. Must be able to follow assigned routes of pick up and clean around sites as prescribed. Assist in preventive maintenance on vehicles and periodic servicing. Wash vehicles and equipment to ensure proper operation and servicing. Cross-training is essential on all equipment and vehicles. Ensure that waste material brought to site is unloaded at the proper locations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Graduation from high school or GED and some experience operating equipment and dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Be able to pass a random DOT drug screening at any time. Be able to pass a criminal background check.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid l North Carolina Class: A or B CDL license Driver’s license
