At FarWest Garden Center, our Nursery Manager plays a vital role in the success of the business. This position is responsible for leading our retail nursery team, developing employees, maintaining exceptional customer service, and ensuring the nursery is organized, well-merchandised, and operating efficiently each day.
Success in this role comes from strong leadership, communication, organization, and the ability to keep a team moving in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, coaching employees, and creating a great experience for both our customers and our team.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop the retail nursery team while maintaining a positive, accountable workplace culture.
- Work with the General Manager to delegate daily priorities and follow up with the team to ensure work is completed efficiently.
- Work alongside employees on the sales floor, providing direction and support throughout the day.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience by assisting customers and helping employees provide outstanding service.
- Monitor the appearance and organization of the nursery, ensuring merchandise is healthy, well-stocked, and attractively displayed.
- Work closely with department buyers, leads, and supervisors to coordinate daily operations, including merchandising, watering, receiving product, and overall workflow.
- Work with the General Manager to execute seasonal initiatives, improve processes, and achieve company goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, employee performance, and the customer experience.
- Help train new employees while building the confidence and knowledge of existing team members.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of leadership or management experience in retail, customer service, hospitality, or a related field required.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong people skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and earn the respect of a team.
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects, adapt to changing conditions, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active environment.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Horticulture, garden center, nursery, or related plant knowledge is preferred, but strong leadership ability and a willingness to learn are more important.
- Availability to work a full-time schedule, including weekends during our busy seasons.
