Duties
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner and Epic.
- Administer medications via injection, IV infusion, catheter care, and other methods following aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
- Coordinate and execute diagnostic evaluations like laboratory tests, specimen collection/processing, imaging procedures (sonography, mammography), and diagnostic coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Manage acute pain and chronic conditions through tailored treatment plans, including wound suturing, ostomy care, and pain management strategies.
- Provide specialized care for diverse populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics with memory or dementia care needs, neonatal resuscitation procedures, or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Assist with complex procedures including cardiac catheterization, spinal tap, gastrostomy tube feeding, ventilator management, and trauma medicine in Level I or Level II trauma center environments.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accurate medical documentation for legal and billing purposes.
- Support discharge planning and case management efforts to facilitate smooth transitions from hospital to home or long-term care settings like assisted living or nursing homes.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration in the applicable state or country.
- Demonstrated experience working in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Pediatric ICU), or trauma centers.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; experience with Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience providing specialized care including dialysis support, hospice & palliative medicine, behavioral health interventions, or occupational health services.
- Critical care experience coupled with skills in airway management, ventilator operation, telemetry monitoring, and acute care procedures.
- Ability to perform venipuncture (phlebotomy), IV insertion/injection administration, suturing, catheterization (urinary or vascular), and specimen collection/processing efficiently.
- Excellent patient assessment skills with the ability to triage effectively in urgent care or emergency room settings.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational injuries is advantageous.
- Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or in long-term care environments such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities is preferred.
