Position Summary
The Instructional Assistant supports student learning and achievement by assisting with instructional activities, reinforcing academic skills, supporting classroom management, and providing individual and small-group instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher. This position is focused on student support and instructional assistance and does not include clerical or administrative office duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support
- Assist the teacher in implementing daily lessons and instructional activities.
- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills and concepts taught by the teacher.
- Support students in reading, mathematics, writing, science, and other content areas.
- Provide academic interventions and enrichment activities as directed by the teacher.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student performance.
- Assist with the implementation of differentiated instruction and accommodations for diverse learners.
- Support students in using instructional technology and educational resources.
Student Supervision and Support
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and designated school activities.
- Promote positive student behavior and reinforce school-wide expectations.
- Assist with classroom management strategies that foster a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Encourage student engagement, participation, and independence.
- Support students with social-emotional learning and conflict-resolution strategies when appropriate.
Special Programs and Interventions
- Assist in the delivery of intervention programs, tutoring, and targeted instructional support.
- Support students receiving services through MTSS, intervention plans, or other academic support programs.
- Assist with accommodations and modifications for students as directed by the teacher and support staff.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff to support student success.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with student arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other supervision duties as assigned.
- Support school programs, events, and activities that enhance student learning and school culture.
- Perform other instructional and student-support duties as assigned by the principal.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or completion of college coursework preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Ability to pass all required background checks.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and classroom supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to actively supervise students in various school settings.
Terms of Employment
- Salary and work schedule determined by the school's approved salary schedule and employment contract.
