Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly qualified Licensed Special Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in special education, with expertise in developing individualized educational plans and implementing effective teaching strategies for children with diverse learning needs. As a Licensed Special Educator, you will deliver tailored instruction, support students’ developmental progress, and collaborate closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to promote academic success and emotional well-being.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the educational case manager for assigned students, ensuring compliance with IDEA and Vermont Special Education Regulations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), behavior support plans, transition plans, and other required educational documentation.
- Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings, evaluations, annual reviews, and other special education meetings.
- Deliver individualized, small-group, and classroom instruction using evidence-based instructional practices.
- Adapt curriculum, accommodations, and instructional strategies to meet each student's unique academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- Monitor student progress, collect and analyze data, and adjust instruction based on student outcomes.
- Collaborate with clinicians, residential staff, families, sending school districts, and community providers to support student success.
- Implement trauma-informed practices and positive behavioral interventions to promote a safe, structured learning environment.
- Participate as an active member of Brookhaven's multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Maintain accurate educational records and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and organizational requirements.
- Foster student independence, self-advocacy, confidence, and academic growth.
- Participate in professional development, school improvement initiatives, and other duties that support the mission of Brookhaven.
Skills
- Extensive experience in classroom management for students with special needs.
- Strong knowledge of special education law, educational compliance, and regulation standards.
- Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, or emotional/behavioral challenges.
- Familiarity with early childhood education practices including toddler care and preschool experience.
- Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math concepts, physical education, and social skills development.
- Skilled in working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
- Knowledge of standardized testing procedures relevant to special education assessments.
- Strong communication skills to effectively work with children, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
