Overview
The QDRO/Legal Assistant is responsible for assisting the Senior QDRO/Legal Analyst in processing Qualified Domestic Relations Order’s (QDRO’s), Qualified Medical Child Support Orders (QMCSO’s) and subpoenas. The QDRO/Legal Analyst is also responsible for assisting with various projects, using spreadsheets for calculations, data entry, returned mail and assisting with administration of the pension and eligibility units as needed. Also responsible for assisting callers with QDRO/QMCSO related inquiries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Senior QDRO/Legal Analyst with the evaluation and processing of QDROs,
- Evaluate and respond to domestic relation orders,
- Work with legal counsel and plan actuarial consultants on processing the more complicated domestic relations orders,
- Maintain a list of approved qualified domestic relations orders,
- Enter domestic relations order data into basys system,
- Maintain escrow, appeal period and spouse application reports,
- Work with the pension unit to complete the processing of QDRO payments and adjustments,
- Compose correspondence and maintain files,
- Prepare pension estimates in general and for divorces,
- Respond to subpoenas,
- Assist with the annual mandatory distribution process,
- Evaluate Medical Child Support Orders/Notices for qualification,
- Enroll child in plan and add to the basys system upon qualification,
- Update existing dependent record upon qualification,
- Compose correspondence and maintain files,
- Respond to written and oral inquiries from participants, attorneys, Trustees, business representatives, and state agencies,
- Monitor and research returned mail and/or electronic files for new addresses,
- Send address change forms to members and update basys as necessary,
- Utilize “People Search” methods to find current addresses,
- Assist callers with QDRO/QMCSO related inquiries,
- Assist Pension or Eligibility units with any administration or projects.
Position Qualifications:
- High school or GED equivalent, College degree preferred,
- Previous employee benefit experience preferred,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be reliable and have acceptable and predictable attendance,
- Excellent communication skills including active listening,
- Must be detail oriented,
- Strong computer experience (Microsoft Office Suite or related) required,
- Strong math and organizational skills required,
- Self-starter with ability to take charge of a wide variety of employee benefit issues/problems and follow through to resolution.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, talking on a phone and working on a computer.
Pay: $25.50 - $30.50 per hour
