Cherokee County is seeking a Solid Waste Collector to perform manual labor and support work assisting with solid waste collection services. This position is responsible for collecting household garbage on assigned routes, moving waste carts to collection trucks, and loading refuse into sanitation vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. The Solid Waste Collector supports route operations by assisting drivers with inspections, maintaining cleanliness of work areas, and ensuring proper handling of waste materials. Responsibilities also include assisting with routine maintenance of sanitation equipment and following safety procedures while working in outdoor environments. This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work and maintain productivity in a fast-paced setting.
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Experience in sanitation work, manual labor, or outdoor work preferred
- Knowledge of basic safety practices related to waste collection operations
- Ability to collect and load waste efficiently and safely
- Ability to assist drivers with route operations and equipment inspections
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, bending, and working outdoors
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and reliability
