Assembly Group Lead- Day Shift
Royal Switchgear, an MPS Company. The Control Mechanism Group Lead plans and coordinates the assembly and production of group operated switches used in electrical switchgear products. This position is responsible for executing the daily production schedule provided by the Master Scheduler and ensuring that quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met.
The Control Mechanism Group Lead works closely with engineering, quality, warehouse, and purchasing teams to ensure materials, tooling, and instructions are available and accurate. This role requires a hands-on leader who can guide assembly personnel, resolve production issues, and drive continuous improvement on the shop floor. Achieving results through teamwork and collaboration, rather than direct authority, is key to success in this position.
Location: Onsite - Bessemer, Alabama
What You'll Do
- Coordinate with the Master Scheduler and warehouse functions to execute the daily production plan each month.
- Supervise 4–5 hourly assembly line workers.
- Ensure hourly assembly manpower is available to support assembly requirements.
- Monitor and report daily status of production orders on the shop floor.
- Lead or perform accurate and timely internal job order processing on the ERP system.
- Verify material availability for production orders with the warehouse team.
- Utilize analysis skills to determine root causes of quality issues and implement actions to resolve them.
- Provide support and coordination for the annual physical inventory activity.
- Learn processes and products and become a “student of the business.”
- Provide disaster preparedness and emergency procedures.
- Create and follow ISO-type process instructions and procedures.
- Actively enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Initiate corrective action plans and documentation when required.
- Ensure the highest level of process compliance and accuracy are maintained for all activities.
What You’ll Need to Excel in This Role
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 2–4 years of experience in assembly-type production.
- Valid Alabama Driver License with satisfactory driving record.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- High-energy personality with a hands-on, lead-by-example leadership style.
- General computer skills and experience operating within an ERP system utilizing a work order process.
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
- Competent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work regular shifts, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as assigned; may be subject to call back, on call, and/or emergency shifts.
- Manual dexterity to operate computers, equipment, tools, and controls.
- Mental acuity for attention to accuracy and detail.
- Active listening and effective communication skills.
- Ability to read assembly drawings.
- Strong critical thinking and reasoning abilities.
