About Us
Phillip Cable Manufacturing is a defense manufacturer based in Norcross, GA. Our team of approximately 60 people builds mission-critical cable assemblies and wiring harnesses in a facility that holds an active CAGE code and operates under strict defense quality standards. We have been in business since 2013, we have maintained an unbroken track record with our government customers, and we are now expanding into new markets and new capabilities.
What You Will Do
You will own PCM's core accounting functions — the work that keeps our financial records accurate, our cash flow visible, and our contracts profitable. A typical day includes reviewing bank activity and cash position, tracking government payment status, processing and coding invoices, reconciling accounts, coordinating with purchasing and warehouse on financial issues, and preparing the reports leadership needs to run the business. No two days are exactly alike, but the rhythm is consistent.
The work rests on one distinction, and we will say it plainly because it is how we think about the job. The government's payment system tells you what they intend to do. The bank tells you what actually happened. Managing the space between those two — what is promised to us but not yet received, and what is sitting in the account but already committed — is the center of this role.
Your scope goes well beyond bookkeeping. You will manage accounts payable and receivable, lead month-end close, reconcile inventory and manufacturing costs, track job profitability, own the statutory filing calendar, coordinate payroll with ADP, prepare management reporting, and strengthen the internal controls that keep a defense manufacturer audit-ready. You will work directly with the President and across every department in the company.
Two things worth being direct about. This is the sole finance seat — there is no controller above you and no accounting staff below you, so you will be running the function rather than a piece of it.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, and lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and all balance sheet accounts, with nothing rolling forward unexplained
- Oversee accounts payable — review vendor invoices, enforce three-way match against purchase order and receiving documentation, manage payment schedules, and prevent duplicate or incorrect payments
- Run the weekly check run — build the pay list, verify each bill against its supporting documents, and issue payments on a predictable cadence
- Oversee accounts receivable — monitor aging, track collections, apply payments correctly, and help reduce Days Sales Outstanding
- Track government payments from submitted to scheduled to actually received; verify deposits against payment system records before recording, and escalate when payment does not arrive as expected
- Reconcile raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory; support cycle counts and review variances
- Support manufacturing cost accounting — labor, overhead, material usage, standard versus actual cost analysis, and scrap and rework tracking
- Track cost by job, contract, or product line; compare estimated versus actual cost, flag margin issues early, and help management assess profitability by product, customer, and department
- Close completed jobs — verify invoiced totals against contract totals, enter unit cost, and archive supporting documentation
- Review payroll entries, reconcile payroll to the ledger, and coordinate with ADP on taxes, benefits, and accruals
- Own the statutory filing calendar — payroll tax filings and deposits, sales and use tax, year-end 1099 and W-2 issuance, the Georgia business personal property return, and workers' compensation audit support
- Prepare weekly cash position updates, build the view that shows cash available after committed obligations, lead budget preparation, and deliver budget versus actual analysis and management reporting that helps leadership act on financial trends
- Enforce purchase order approval controls and signature thresholds consistent with government contractor purchasing requirements
- Maintain Certificate of Conformance records continuously as partial shipments occur
- Maintain audit-ready records; support the outside CPA, tax preparers, auditors, and government contract documentation requirements
- Strengthen internal controls, create and keep current SOPs for recurring accounting processes, and improve coordination between accounting and operations
Who You Are
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, account reconciliation, and independently owning month-end close
- Able to take over a process from written documentation. You will be handed detailed SOPs and a documented map of our full cash cycle, and be expected to run from them — and to correct them where reality differs from what is written
- Strong knowledge of general accounting, AP/AR, payroll, and fixed assets
- Experience with inventory accounting and manufacturing cost accounting
- Comfortable being the only accountant in the building — you can prioritize your own work, catch your own errors, and escalate before something becomes a problem
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis), comfort in Google Sheets, and experience with QuickBooks or similar ERP systems
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and disciplined about accuracy and follow-through — you do not guess when a number does not tie, and you do not let unresolved items roll forward
- You communicate clearly with both office and operations teams, and you can hold other departments to a standard when the inputs you depend on are late or incomplete
- You can protect confidential information
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Bonus Points
- Manufacturing environment experience (job shop, contract manufacturing, or similar)
- Government contract, defense industry, or job-costing experience
- Familiarity with MISys, QuickBooks, or similar manufacturing ERP
- Bilingual English / Vietnamese
