Milieu Counselor
DESCRIPTION: Wild Acre and Mental Health Solutions is a private mental health company providing services to adults with persistent mental health challenges and disorders. The growing company is currently comprised of three group homes and also offers additional “home care” in-home services. Wild Acre and Mental Health Solutions also serves young adults, with primary mood disorders, in a shorter term and more active residential setting. The newest program is designed to treat individuals with dual diagnosis to help increase their independence and to maintain sobriety.
As a Milieu Counselor, your primary responsibility is to help patients learn to live independently or reintegrate into society. You may assist them with day-to-day activities and be a role model for positive interpersonal relationships with others. As an important member of the treatment team, you will set appropriate boundaries for patients.
You may also plan, conduct, monitor, and document treatment activities like group sessions. You will also keep an open line of communication between the program and the patients’ families to keep them included in the treatment plans and interventions.
REPORTS TO: Program Director and Day Program Director. Weekend day shifts and evening 3-11 needed.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide consistent therapeutic milieu support, fostering a structured, safe, and recovery-oriented environment that promotes autonomy, accountability, and community integration
- Support residents in developing and maintaining independent living skills, including activities of daily living, time management, and personal organization
- Actively engage as a member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing clinical observations, behavioral insights, and recommendations during team meetings, treatment reviews, and case discussions
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate therapeutic groups and community meetings, promoting engagement, peer support, and skill development
- Build and maintain working knowledge of community-based resources; support residents in accessing and navigating these resources as part of discharge and aftercare planning
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation, including daily progress notes and significant event reporting
- Support safe medication practices, including observation, documentation, and communication with prescribing providers in accordance with program policies
- Assist residents in pursuing educational, vocational, and meaningful daily activities, encouraging independence and long-term goal attainment
REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred to have BA/BSW in related field with preferably up to one year of experience working with people with dual diagnosis. Ability to run dual diagnosis groups and provide individualized substance abuse support. Knowledge of 12 step programs, motivational interviewing and evidence based substance abuse treatment. Computer literacy and skill in the use of computers and related software applications. Ability to consistently meet all necessary background and credentialing requirements. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work and for the transportation of clients as needed.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
