Job Description
Security Alliance is seeking an Armed Level II Security Officer to provide relief and floating coverage across our Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department locations in South Miami-Dade County. This is not a fixed-post assignment. The officer fills coverage gaps sector-wide — call-outs, no-shows, vacation, sick days, and short-notice or emergency assignments — and travels between facilities as scheduling requires.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Stand assigned posts and conduct patrols in accordance with site-specific Post Orders.
- Control access to restricted facilities and verify photo identification of all persons entering.
- Respond to alarms, emergencies, and unusual incidents; take action as directed by Post Orders.
- Investigate suspicious activity and notify law enforcement and WASD Security when warranted.
- Operate a marked patrol vehicle or motorized cart where assigned.
- Maintain daily logs and complete incident and injury reports on approved forms.
- Lock and unlock gates and doors, control lighting, and raise and lower flags at designated times.
- Report safety hazards and maintain a professional presence with staff, contractors, and the public.
Schedule and availability
This role requires genuine schedule flexibility. Candidates who need a fixed shift or a fixed location should apply for a posted assignment instead.
- Available for all shifts, including rotating shifts, weekends, and County-observed holidays.
- Willing to accept reassignment of hours or location at the employer’s discretion.
- Reliable independent transportation to travel between facilities.
- Overtime available and expected on occasion.
Job Requirements
General requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED from a U.S. accredited, verifiable institution.
- U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
- Able to read, write, speak, and be understood in English, including under stress.
- Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods and to physically control a combative individual if necessary.
- Military applicants must provide a DD-214 (long form) showing an Honorable Discharge.
- All experience must be fully verifiable.
Licenses — must be current at time of hire
- Florida Class "D" Security Officer License.
- Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License.
- Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Experience — must meet at least one
- Two (2) or more years of security experience, or equivalent training.
- One (1) year of completed college coursework combined with one (1) year of security experience or equivalent training.
- Law enforcement, corrections officer, or federal agency officer experience.
- Military Police, career military, or military elite forces background.
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Administration.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree combined with military, security, or security-related experience.
- Graduate of a police or corrections academy.
- Graduate of the Miami-Dade Police Academy or another local police academy, with certificate of completion.
