SENIOR CNC LATHE OPERATOR- DAY SHIFT

ELSNER Engineering is seeking a highly skilled CNC Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team. This is an important opening created by the upcoming retirement of an experienced team member, and we are looking for a machinist capable of carrying forward a high standard of workmanship.
The successful candidate will be able to set up and operate CNC lathes independently, understand the complete turning process, and consistently produce accurate parts. This position requires sound machining judgment, strong inspection skills, and the ability to solve problems without constant supervision.
Primary Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes for precision turning work
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and GD&T
- Select and install appropriate tooling, inserts, jaws, and workholding
- Set work and tool offsets accurately
- Determine or adjust speeds and feeds for different materials and cutting conditions
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections
- Machine parts to close dimensional and finish requirements
- Monitor insert wear, tool life, chip control, and part quality
- Make offsets and safe program edits as required
- Troubleshoot dimensional, finish, tooling, setup, and cycle issues
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records
- Communicate effectively with engineering, quality, and fellow machinists
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Required Qualifications
- Strong CNC lathe setup and operating experience
- Ability to work independently from blueprint through completed part
- Thorough understanding of turning operations and machining fundamentals
- Experience with close-tolerance precision work
- Strong blueprint-reading and shop-math skills
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, indicators, and other precision inspection tools
- Knowledge of insert selection, workholding, jaw setup, speeds, feeds, and chip control
- Ability to make tool offsets and appropriate adjustments at the machine
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- A consistent record of quality, dependability, and safe work practices
- CNC programming or program-editing experience is a plus
- Manual lathe or mill experience is also valuable
