Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
- Prepare examination rooms and sterilize medical instruments for procedures like X-ray, phlebotomy, and medication administration.
- Support clinical procedures by performing phlebotomy and administering medications under supervision.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring accurate documentation of patient encounters, medical histories, ICD coding, and treatment plans.
- Facilitate patient communication by providing clear instructions on medication use, follow-up care, and appointment scheduling.
- Maintain medical records in compliance with privacy regulations and assist with medical documentation for billing and insurance purposes.
- Support hospital or outpatient clinic operations by managing medical supplies inventory and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth workflow.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar role within outpatient clinics, hospital medicine, dermatology, or emergency medicine settings.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, ICD coding, and medical records management.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health records management tools.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent is required to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate empathy.
- Familiarity with clinical procedures such as vital signs measurement, specimen collection (phlebotomy), medication administration, X-ray support, and intake processes.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments; inpatient experience is highly valued.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage medical documentation accurately while supporting multiple providers across diverse specialties including pediatrics, geriatrics.
