About the role
We are looking for a hands-on mechanical engineer to support multiple active builds across our product development pipeline. You will work on mechanical design, integration, and rapid prototyping for electromechanical systems, enclosures, mounts, and assemblies.
What you will do
- Mechanical design and packaging
- Create CAD (in SolidWorks) for enclosures, brackets, frames, internal mounts, and cable routing
- Select materials and fastening approaches suitable for prototype and early production builds
- Define mechanical interfaces and tolerances to support reliable assembly and serviceability
- Prototype builds and iteration
- Support rapid prototyping using 3D printing, CNC, laser cut, and off the shelf components
- Participate in hands on assembly, fit checks, troubleshooting, and design iterations
- Document build procedures and lessons learned for repeatability
- Integration with electrical and industrial design
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces for sensors, displays, compute modules, batteries, and connectors
- Support thermal management concepts and practical heat mitigation
- Improve mechanical robustness, strain relief, and manufacturable routing for wiring and harnesses
- DFM, DFA, and supplier coordination
- Produce drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation
- Coordinate with vendors for plastics, sheet metal, and fabrication services
- Support design changes for cost, lead time, and manufacturability improvements
- Test fixtures and reliability support
- Design simple fixtures and jigs for alignment, calibration, and repeatable lab testing
- Assist with durability checks and root cause analysis on mechanical failures
Required Qualifications
- Practical experience with mechanical design for hardware products, prototypes, or assemblies
- Strong CAD (SolidWorks) skills and ability to generate drawings with clear tolerances
- Strong 3D-Printing experience, both FDM and SLA preferred
- Comfort working in a lab environment with tools, parts, and iterative builds
- Strong bilingual (English & Spanish) communication and ability to coordinate across electrical, firmware, and software teams
- Reliable transportation
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with thin enclosures, portable products, or wall mounted assemblies
- Familiarity with plastics and sheet metal design rules, fasteners, adhesives, and basic sealing concepts
- Experience with thermal considerations for embedded electronics
- Prior experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturing partners
Internship track
We welcome applications from students or early career candidates with strong CAD skills and hands on build experience. Interns should be able to commit consistent weekly hours and provide a small portfolio of relevant work.
