Working in an animal shelter is incredibly rewarding—but it is also physically demanding. Every day, you'll help provide exceptional care to homeless cats by ensuring they have clean living spaces, nutritious meals, enrichment, and compassionate care while they wait for their forever homes.

What You'll Do
- Feed and provide fresh water to shelter animals according to established schedules.
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect kennels, cat cages, cage banks, litter boxes, floors, and animal housing areas every day.
- Clean indoor and outdoor animal spaces, including catios.
- Observe animals daily and report any changes in health or behavior.
- Wash dishes and do laundry.
- Clean litterboxes and other items daily, outside at a covered workstation.
- Stock food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other shelter necessities.
- Work closely with staff, volunteers, and veterinary personnel to provide exceptional animal care.
Physical Requirements – Please Read Carefully
This is a highly physical position requiring continuous movement throughout the shift.
Applicants must be able to:
- Lift and carry 50-pound bags of food, cat litter, and supplies.
- Stand, bend, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, twist, and reach for the majority of the shift while cleaning cages and floors.
- Push and pull carts, use a step stool, clean trash containers, and cleaning equipment.
- Perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout each shift.
- Work indoors and outdoors, including in Florida heat, humidity, rain, and other weather conditions while cleaning outdoor animal areas.
- Safely work with animals of varying ages, temperaments, and medical conditions. This includes caring for cats with common shelter illnesses such as upper respiratory infections (URI), ringworm, intestinal parasites, and other communicable diseases. Employees are expected to follow all shelter protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to cleaning and sanitation procedures to help prevent the spread of disease.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys staying active and doesn't mind getting dirty while making a difference.
Schedule
Animal care is provided 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays.
Applicants must be available to work:
- Morning shifts beginning at 6:30 a.m. or 7:30 a.m.
- Evening feeding shifts beginning at 4:00 p.m.
- Weekends and holidays as scheduled
Reliable attendance is essential because the animals depend on us every day.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Animal care experience is a plus but not required—we are willing to train the right person.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Passion for animal welfare and humane care.

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
