Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Infusion Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to infusion patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RN with a strong background in immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or specialty medications.
Requirements
- Current, active, unrestricted Alaska RN license – required to submit
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience preferred/required per position requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience with immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or specialty medications
- BLS/BCLS certification required
- ACLS required
- Current flu vaccination required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must live at least 50 miles from the work location to qualify as a traveler
- Must be able to pass required fingerprint/background processing
Important Start Date Information
The start date will be no earlier than 6 weeks after fingerprint cards are received for processing. Upon acceptance, the traveler must schedule a fingerprint appointment and mail the completed fingerprint cards within 2–3 days to help avoid delays in the start date.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe and comprehensive infusion nursing care to patients.
- Administer specialty IV fluids and medications through peripheral and central lines according to physician orders and approved infusion protocols.
- Provide care for patients receiving immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and specialty medications.
- Maintain and care for CVCs, PICCs, and other IV access devices according to facility and professional guidelines.
- Review patient orders and prepare patients for infusion treatments.
- Monitor patients for drug reactions, complications, and changes in condition.
- Respond promptly to adverse reactions and emergency situations.
- Coordinate patient referrals, tests, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Assist with appointment coordination and infusion scheduling.
- Initiate prior authorization processes when needed.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, specialists, pharmacies, patients, and families.
- Document patient assessments, treatments, reactions, and follow-up care accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment, medications, and post-infusion care.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
- Provide guidance and direction to other healthcare team members as needed.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, education programs, quality initiatives, and professional development activities.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of infusion nursing practices and medication administration.
- Experience with specialty medications, immunotherapy, and/or chemotherapy.
- Experience with peripheral and central venous access devices.
- Ability to operate IV infusion pumps and other clinical equipment.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and emergency response skills.
- Ability to manage multiple patients and competing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
- Strong patient-centered care and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform duties in a clinical infusion environment.
